This invitation for a youth congress on nationalism was written and published by Alfredo Malicay, Editor-In-Chief of The Aggie Green and Gold from 1968 to 1969.
Theme: “Nationalism and Philippine Economy”
“Youth need not be wasted on trifles and sentiments. To the young are bestowed the gift of vision and the ‘energy to turn this vision into acts that-will in time be both grand and enduring. A call for ‘the youth to re-spond those gestures of protest against parity, against American bases, against an alien-shackled Philippine economy, against a mendicant foreign policy, against tenancy. A real call for vigorous nationalism for ‘us to unite and stage militantly on national issues and events and problems that are plaguing our country.”
Along this line, the UPCA Student Body Organization, hitherto, sponsors a Congress on Nationalism, first, of its kind in Southern Tagalog, on February 18-19, 1967 at the Magsaysay Hall, Community Development Center PACD, College, Laguna, to provide the youth chances to discuss and, enlighten to the basic problems confronting our economy. To seek further resolutions and measures whereby our independence dreamed by our heroes be fully felt, asserted and realized. In the advent of examining the indecency met by this country and its people, discussions and deliberations will center on Land Reform and the role of politics in economic life of a nation. Human activities existing within the context of a nation are subservient to the economic situation of that nation, example, is politics where in the rests of human activities could be made to subdue. This would plainly imply that we should know the necessary knowledge on politics. So the feeling of the necessity to grasp this knowledge and background, the SBO have invited prominent and distinguished men in various fields of endeavor related to the topic of the congress to enlighten us to the idea of these relationships.
Student of different schools and colleges in Southern Tagalog are invited to attend this congress. This invitation would include the UPCA and UPCF students. The Congress will start at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, February 18 and will end at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 19. For more particulars inquire to Mr. William G.
