Martyrs and Heroes

The main focus of work of Bantayog ng mga Bayani is to recognize, honor and popularize the lives of individuals who joined the resistance against dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. In 2023, it numbers 326 names in its roster, and more are added every year through research and documentation. Find the full list here. Information about each individual is to be found here. Bantayog also maintains a database of names where research and validation still need to be done.

The Wall of Remembrance, a series of black granite walls located in the Bantayog center, is the physical monument where the names of these martyrs and heroes are to be found. The first names were enshrined in 1992. Others have been added in subsequent years.

The Wall of Remembrance is the center’s most visited spot. Every November, Bantayog holds a ceremony before the Wall of Remembrance, to honor these martyrs and heroes.

Out of the names in the Wall of Remembrance, there are 312 Martyrs and Heroes Biographies currently available for browsing. The remaining biographies are being added into the portal as of the moment.
