Adapted from Bonifacio Abdon’s Kundiman of 1920, “Mutya” was composed while the author was incarcerated during the Marcos dictatorship.
This, along with a number of other songs were the first set of protest music created and distributed even at the height of Martial Law in the Philippines.
It was composed by a brilliant scientist who joined the movement for democracy and freedom in the Philippines: Dr. Aloysius “Ochie” Baes.
